The practical answer

Arriving by train, the Winchester Hotel & Spa on Worthy Lane is about a 6-minute walk from the station front, with on-site parking to confirm when booking — the Cathedral is a further 10 to 12 minutes on foot. Hotel du Vin on Southgate Street and the Winchester Royal Hotel are each about 12 minutes' walk, via Station Hill or Jewry Street respectively; both ask you to arrange parking with the hotel, with Middle Brook Street or Tower Street as the city fallback.
